Sunday, July 29, 2001, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm

Bring your Schnauzer and participate in dog day afternoon; casual lunch, fun games, family entertainment.  Dog Day will be Hidden Valley Park in Martinez again this year.  Activities are planned to entertain you and your dog(s).  Visit with old friends, make new friends and immerse in the wonderful world of Schnauzers.  And don’t forget your camera!

Be comfortable.  For yourself, wear California (layer, layer, layer) picnic clothes and bring something comfortable to sit/lay on.  For your dog(s), bring dog collar, leash, exercise pen and treats.  The park provides water but we recommend you bring your own (strange water can cause upset tummies).  If your dog is unfamiliar with crowds of humans and dogs it could cause stress.  Consider bringing a crate in case your dog needs a little time out.  Dogs must be on leash or in exercise pens at all times.  Order lunch when you register or bring your own.

RESCUE

At the heart of SJMSC and one the reasons this annual event means so much is to take a moment to showcase these special dogs and their proud owners.  Hear stories about some amazing dogs that have a new chance at love for life with very special families.

IN THE COMPANY OF SCHNAUZERS

Take the opportunity to find out your Schnauzer isn’t odd, just being a Schnauzer.  Over 40 Schnauzers, and some other doggie friends, participated with their human families in 2000.  There just isn’t anything like being around that many Schnauzers in one place all being Schnauzers.  Come and join us

MICROCHIP CLINIC

We live in an area where disaster planning is an important action to take for our families.  Our dogs are at risk during an earthquake, other natural disasters and other accidents that can place our dogs in the category of “lost”.  This American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized clinic is offered to help you recover your pet.  Microchips must be purchased in advance for your dog.  For more detailed information and to take the first step in purchasing your microchip (click here).  A special area will be designated at Dog Day Afternoon and be open from 1:30 to 3:00.

RAFFLE

Purchase your tickets and drop in the container of the item you want to win.  Raffle prizes have the dog of your life in mind, like comfy beds.  There will also be prizes for humans, like lovely leaded glass with a Schnauzer portrait donated by Patty Wolfe.  And more!!

FUN STUFF

If you attended in last year, you know that dog’s have the same challenge as humans bowling.  How fast can your dog come when you call?  Have fun with your dog going through a fun confidence course.  And other fun things to do or just watch.
