Sunny
Rescued by
Susan Savage
We adopted Sunny just over a year ago, he will be 10 in
December. I had wanted a dog for a long time - I grew up with my Dad's
hunting dogs, and a collie helped raise my kids.
I loved Sunny from the first day - and was rather taken
aback when I learned he was a terrier - I had thought terriers were
aggressive and unpredictable. Just shows what I didn't know.
My husband and I are in our 60's and needed more than
an exercise machine to get us moving. Sunny has been so very much more
than that for us. He is a loving and loyal companion - an exciting buddy
to explore our neighborhood and to take to the beach every weekend.
Because we don't have a fenced yard, he and I walk more
than a mile at 6:30 every morning, my husband walks him twice during the
day and Sunny and I get a moonlight walk around 9pm. I have seen more
sunrises and moonlit nights since we've had him than in my entire life. He
is always eager to go and has his favorite routes and sniffing spots.
When off the leash very early in the morning in the
park he really moves out - Sunny the Wonder Dog! Walking at nite in the
moonlight, he is the Ghost Who Walks. In the evenings he sometimes sleeps
in my lap (and sometimes snores).
He is not very social, won't allow many to touch him
and doesn't really play with other dogs. I am told that several years ago
he was pretty torn up by another dog, so he is fairly aloof. He greets
other dogs with a wagging tail cause he wants to meet them and trade
scents, but that's about all.
Sunny is a very special dog, and I am grateful to
Sherry McDowell for rescuing him when his former owner couldn't keep him
any longer – I can't imagine ever giving him up!
